The "Who Am I" Page - The First I have Done

Well, I finally did it. I have completed the About Me page. Although I called it something else. The only reason I am posting this and announcing it like this is because it has been so long. I have been running Diverse By Design in one form or another for the last four years and this is the very first about me page that I have ever done. That in itself is enough reason for celebration my friends.

So if you have been visiting for some time or this is one of your very first visits, the page is there for your enjoyment. I will warn you however, it is rather long. I took the liberty of writing a true biography and gave a bit more information than you might see in a typical "About Me" page. Then again, some might say that I just rambled on and on. I do have that tendency at times. But don't we all? That is what makes us writers.

Enjoy.

The Freelance Backup

Some of this I spoke about a couple posts back but it bears repeating to those of us working under the Freelance title. It can be a hard road, that we all know. What can sometimes come as a surprise is the manner in which we go from job to job. As a Freelancer we should be of the mindset that no job is permanent or even semi-permanent. But this can sometimes be hard to keep in mind when you are working on a long job or even one that has been consistent of late. I have run into this very problem.

Working Hard, or Hardly Workin?

It was a pretty good deal for a while. The work was not the easiest in the sense of $ per word but the work was consistent and that is what I cherished. After spending a few months chasing work and going from job to job I found myself working for someone who had consistent work, paid on time (twice a week), and always paid! In this line of work that can often be blessing when found.

I enjoyed the work. I won't say that I liked it because it could get rather tedious at times. But it was better than the alternative. The alternative was just a bunch of different jobs. Searching for jobs and chasing leads. It paid but it was not consistent and it was not fun. This job I had found however was consistent and that is what made it somewhat fun and easy. I enjoyed knowing when I had work and when I would be paid. Then I made the mistake that we all make sometimes, I began to count on that pay check. That was mine.

Two weeks ago I should have seen something coming, but I think I refused to believe it. Two weeks ago was the first time a payment came in late. It was about 24 hours late, but it came. That is why I continued to believe all was well. Then, slowly, the pattern of work started to change and then finally the well dried up. Now I might be jumping to conclusions here, but even if I am I would rather err on the side of caution.

Be Careful.

I have always had a list of good sources of work. In my bookmark toolbar (Firefox rocks) I have a folder called "Work Sites/Authoring" and within this folder lies the bookmarks for the sites I have tested. By tested I mean that I have an account and I have done enough work on each site to get a payment. In this line of work you always have to be careful and protect yourself. Any freelancer in any field will tell you the same.

So, I set out to protect myself a while ago. I did the research and I got into each of these sites long enough to get a payment. This way I could quickly find which sites were legit and which were just out for the scam. The sites that I stuck with I now use as a backup in case my consistent work dried up.

Guess what! Here I am. The work has slowed and I am now going through my so-called backups for work. You have to keep that paycheck rolling in. And that is my advice to others out there. There is nothing wrong with sticking in one place for a bit. But, you have to make sure you have a back up plan in case something happens. It does not matter what that plan is, and for most people it is different. But have something. You will never know when things might change on you in a flash!

A Story About Drugs and Our Relationship With Them

Boy, this has really been an opinion filled day for me. This time however I am going to talk about #drugs and #addiction, and some of the recent changes that have taken place in our country. Oh yea.. and I'm going to throw some hashtags in for good measure.

It is sort of funny that when you discuss drugs around people you get some of the most polarized viewpoints. It is almost as if you were discussing religion or politics. Maybe it is because of all the deaths that have come as a result of drugs. Or maybe it is because of all the money spent fighting the #war on drugs or possibly the money spent to buy them. I think however the reason for it is this. If you take 100 people and put them into a room. You can, to a man, determine that each of the people within that room has either used drugs, know someone who uses drugs, know someone with a drug problem, or know someone effected by drugs in some way.

This is a topic that has a great deal of varying opinions, even amongst the government. Just look at the #marijuana laws and how they have changed over the last decade. Twenty years ago #pot was illegal everywhere. Now it is legal for recreational use in two states and legal for medical use in many others. Those who cannot count themselves amongst the legal states are probably in legislation to do so right now. This was an easy one however and something that should have taken place long ago. Marijuana should be as legal as alcohol in my opinion and trust me, I am not the only one who thinks so.

The Gateway Drug?

People just love to call #marijuana the #gateway drug. They say it leads people to try other, more powerful drugs. This is not true. People lead people to try more dangerous and more powerful drugs. It is not the fact that they might smoke some #weed that they one day decide they will shoot up smack. Just does not happen like that. See, people like to deal in absolutes, especially when talking about drug use. They say, "you cannot have one drink if you are an addict. Even if you are addicted to cocaine you cannot have one drink because that will lead you back to cocaine."

For anyone who has spent any time whatsoever in a #12 step program will know that "one is too many and a thousand is never enough!" Now I am not purposely trying to knock the #bigbook or the 12 steps or any of the programs. Narcotics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, all of the anonymouses are just fine with me. And if they work to keep a person off of drugs because drugs have become a problem within their lives, that is fucking fabulous! There are people out there who need programs like those. That is for sure.

The Philosophical & (to some the crazy) Side of Drugs.

People look at drugs in a lot of different ways. Let's first start by breaking people up into groups so as to have a better idea of what we are looking at. In the upper levels of society you have your company executives and CEO's. You have politicians and other high ranking government officials. Below them is the upper middle class, the people who basically run everything that the people below them use. Then you have the regular middle class people. These are the people in society who work their tales off to provide a good living for their families and they are successful at it. So while they are not typically rich, they have money.

To most of these people drugs are something that "other people" do. But not them. Of course there are a few exceptions to that rule and within these groups of society you will have a decent amount of users  but they are secretive about it. Thing is, from within this group also comes the so-called champions of the anti-drug movement. The mothers with the power to head a committee or chair one. These are the people who according to them, drugs are evil and anyone who does any kind of drugs is leading themselves down a path of doom and there is no hope for them anymore. However, after these types of people give a rousing speech about the dangers of drugs, they will promptly pick up their wine glass.

I brought this up to illustrate a point. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I am not trying to talk about anything beautiful however that particular quote is comparable to what I am really trying to say. That is, that to each and every one of us, drugs have a very different look, feel, smell, name, etc.. we all see the drugs themselves and the feelings they bestow upon us in a very different way. Let me take this a bit further to help explain.

Coffee.

That's right, coffee. Coffee is filled with caffeine and it is that caffeine that we so crave. Every morning when we wake up we go right for the coffee. At least I know I do. I am useless until I get that first cup in me. The effects of coffee are so sought after that there is an entire market that has sprung up around pills and things to give you caffeine without having to drink the coffee. But let us not stop there. Oh no. The Energy Drink market has been booming over the last few years. People seek energy for getting through their every day lives. We have taken the vitamins and various other extracts and made them into a drink that when ingested will give you almost boundless energy.  You know, cocaine does the exact same thing.

This is where we start to approach my point. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For those who see the energy drink as just a drink. Or just a drink filled with some vitamins and root extracts and caffeine, it is not bad nor is it a drug. Right? Wrong!

These things are drugs just like #cocaine or #heroin or anything else sold illegally. So why is it ok to manufacture, sell and buy these drinks? Oh.. and let's not forget coffee. It does the same thing. Shouldn't we arrest people who sell and drink coffee? Our society has a very strange way of looking at things. This is ok yet that is not. At some point in our history someone decided that cocaine for example was a bad thing to have around. For whatever reason someone in government decided that it was evil, and dangerous and it should be made illegal. After all, it was in many over the counter remedies and yes the famous story about why Cocoa Cola has the name it has is true. There used to be cocaine in the original recipe for the drink. I mean c'mon, a pharmacist invented it.

So we go along in society picking and choosing what is wrong and what is right and then we make laws based on those choices. For the most part the choices made are correct and the laws that we have make sense and do the people good. But where, I ask you, where is the sense in making a smokable plant illegal when there are things much, much worse that marijuana being sold everyday. Have you ever wondered how dangerous some of the energy drinks are for your heart? Sure, marijuana has some bad effects concerning your lungs and other smoking related problems. But I don't think anyone has ever been reported dead as a direct result of THC, the active ingredient in the drug. On the other hand, people have died and had heart attacks because of energy drinks.

It is all about the perception of the drugs themselves. Someone will consider marijuana dangerous but caffeine is not? There have been multiple reports that discuss the dangers of too much caffeine. However it is those in power who fight to keep weed out our hands. What about some of the other drugs? Sure, there are some that are truly dangerous and people should not be messing around with.

Where Do the Rights Start or End?

It is often said that your rights stop where those of another begin or you can do whatever you want providing it does not effect another person's right or well being.

These statements are largely what our laws are based off of. So then, when we are talking about drugs, we must be obviously putting laws on the books for the protection of other people right? We must be of the mindset that when people are using drugs for a recreational purpose they are a danger to those around them. Because all of the laws that say essentially, "You shall not use drugs of any kind!" We must be saying this because we are trying to protect the people who are not using the drugs. Makes sense, right?

But is that truly the case? I do not think so. Most laws that target the use of drugs seem to be enacted because those drugs are a danger to the person using them. So the government is stepping in and trying to tell us what is good for us, bad for us, and what we should and should not do to ourselves. Seems a little like our government has overstepped their bounds. Then again, that is something we should be used to in America. I love my country deeply, but just like any relationship there are faults. I have broken laws throughout my life and the country has done things to me (unrelated to the laws) that have upset me deeply. So like I said, all relationships have "issues".

So where do we go from here? Do we break up? Nah.. there has to be a better solution. Sadly the only solution that I can see to this entire mess is for those in charge to re-evaluate the drug stance in America. To re-evaluate how they are perceived and how people who use them are treated. Unfortunately even if this was to happen it would take years and years. Just look at how long it is taking for the states and Federal government to play nice with the Marijuana laws. Also take a look at how long it is taking the other states to jump on board. It has been a few years since pot was decriminalized in various states.

I live in Illinois, one of the states who still do not have laws on the books freeing marijuana users. They have passed #medical marijuana through the House but there are still various steps and hoops for the laws to go through before becoming official. Even when it does, government officials here are boasting about how restrictive the laws will be. They like to say, "we are not California and we will not be as lax as the rest of the country..." so are they doing anybody any favors?

 Who Is Really Getting Hurt?

It is sometimes hard to tell who the real victims are here. Everybody points to a different group of society. Hell, I have done it in this article as well. But when you think about it, I mean really think about it, who is getting hurt? Does the drug user get hurt? Do others get hurt because they know a drug user? Or does the drug user hurt other people because of their drug use. The answer.. in my opinion is YES.

All of the above get hurt to some degree. The reason is our humanity. We are animals and we want what we want. If we find something that makes us feel good, for whatever reason, we will continue to do it because we want to continue to feel good. Just like the stereotypical story of the girl who gets emotionally hurt by a guy and then goes home to eat chocolate ice cream. She is doing something to make herself feel good. Should she be put in jail?

We are going to do what we think is best for us and what we think will make us feel good or take away pain, whether emotional or physical. Are we wrong for doing so? Just like the person who drinks coffee on a regular basis (myself included). Waking up and running right for the coffee pot to get that first cup of the day. I do it every morning because without it I am as useless as a rock. So I am doing something that changes my mood or my physical state, or at the very least something that makes me feel better. Should that be considered something bad or something that is or should be against the law? Is it any different from a cocaine user doing a bump in the morning to be able to get their head straight? I really don't think so.

Sure, there is always a line that you can cross. A line that differentiates between ok recreational use and going overboard. We all should know where that line is and when we forget about it our friends or loved ones will generally step in to let us know. Anyone who uses any drug has the risk for potential over-use or abuse. But just because that risk exists is no reason for someone else to step in and tell you that you cannot do it and you are not able to control it or handle it. Especially not the government or anyone associated with it. It should be a decision that we make on our own or with the help of people who know us and who we love.

Drugs are all around us. In our coffee, in our cigarettes, and in our energy drinks. These are no different that the drugs that the government has deemed illegal. President Kennedy would get shots of amphetamines on a regular basis so he could, "do his job and fulfill his duty".  Whether we are exposed or use drugs like caffeine or drugs like cocaine or #opiates there is always a line. It is up to us to recognize that and be able to locate that line. We also need to know when to stop. If we cannot then we should not even start. No matter what you decide to do it is YOUR choice and yours alone. It should not be up to the government or anyone else to force you to make choices based on their opinions for what is right for you and your body. That is something that you must decide.

No matter what your choices are, remember; you have to live with the consequences of your choices and you alone must fix any damage caused. Do what you want to do but at the same time make damn sure that you remain aware of those around you and do not hurt the ones you love.

Customer Service or the Lack Thereof

Occasionally I will post a story about my encounters with big corporations and their customer service. See, I am a big believer in customer service done right. I think that when it is done the right way there is nothing that a company cannot achieve. When you treat a customer the way they deserve to be treated then you have won. People always come back to the Nordstrom's story and how they let an old man return a car tire when they clearly do not sell such items. People refer to this often as a great example of a store associate doing it the right way. Now don't get me wrong, it is a great story and I do agree in the fact that it is customer service taken above and beyond. I just think there is more to it.

In my family I am the one they call on when there is a problem to be solved with respect to a company doing someone wrong. Of course, because it is my family I always go into the situation with a bias and assume that the company is in the wrong. However, I always make sure to get all the facts of the situation and if it turns out that the company is not wrong and they did not do anything to warrant a refund or something along those lines, I will not help. In this scenario I will do my best to explain to my family member that while I am sorry this happened, the company was well within its rights. It has happened a few times.

Then there is the opposite scenario in which the company clearly did not hold up their end of the deal and I am called in as the so-called heavy artillery. I will write letters, make phone calls, and in the end I am batting 1000 in regards to settling the differences in my favor (or that of whom I represent). Why do I say this? Well.. I felt there needed to be some background to the story before I started telling it.

True Customer Service

I currently have one such situation on my hands right now having to do with a certain shoe manufacturer. I will not mention their name in this post because at the moment we have resolved our differences and I am now awaiting the shipment of a replacement pair of shoes for my daughter. So all is well. But the fact remains that customer service should not have to sought. In this case I went looking for it when I should not have had to. It should have been given to me with extra to spare. Customer service does not cost anything nor does it cause a company to use resources. It is merely something that is given to any and every customer that chooses to spend money within a certain establishment. Even if they decide not to spend any money the consumer should be treated as if they had. For customer service is the base on which all retail business is built.

Whenever I right a letter to a company and explain my position and that of their store it is customer service that everything relies upon. To put it very simply, if I (or anyone for that matter) pays for something, whether it is an item or a service, I should get that in full. It is expected. Should either of these be kept from me as the person who paid the store in good faith and expecting the same, it is then my duty to lodge a formal complaint in order to get my due. This is in essence what I do for other, and myself.

This is all very simple really. The sad part about it all is that many companies today seem to skip the course in customer service and go right to the lesson on how to cut corners, cheat the consumer, and let's not forget lazy 101. From time to time I may post a letter or two here or maybe even an entire scenario description of one of my many pursuits of justice. Stay tuned.. if the shoe company ends up not coming through with their promise, they might just be the first.

Simple Advice For The Freelance Writer

The life of a Freelance Writer is one that resembles many other professions that rely upon the work other people need done. This is what make our profession so difficult to count on.. financially. Our income relies upon other people, whereas some other jobs or professions have the ability to manufacture their own opportunities. This requires us, the Freelance Writer, to be a bit more crafty.

I for one have for some time now relied upon what I thought was a pretty solid financial plan. It was temporary of course, I am not naive enough to put all of my eggs in one basket or to think that anything lasts forever. At the same time however it still disappoints me that certain "jobs" have fallen through. Even though their recent hiccups might only be temporary, I cannot allow my need for income to rest on the shoulders of a inconsistent source. So... other things need to be put into action. Time for "plan B".

For anyone out there who fancies themselves a Freelancer of any kind you know what I am talking about. It can be hard to make ends meet sometimes. Then again there are times when work is plentiful and you feel like it will never stop coming in.. all is well. The smart Freelancer knows however that nothing is permanent and to always prepare for those times in which the work fries up. It is much like the seasonal construction worker or tradesman. They work all Spring and Summer so they can put away for the Winter. They know how the money flows in and then out again and they prepare for those eventualities. We must do the same.

 Stay Connected

So what is the message here? Essentially just to be prepared. I hate to use tired old cliches but when they fit, they fit. But do not put all your eggs into one basket. Find yourself some valid income sources that you can pull from when you need to. When one job stops giving out the work that you are accustomed to, start writing for the other jobs or clients that you have. At the moment I probably have about 8-9 places that I can write for and bring in solid income on a weekly basis. So at least I have work.

That is the biggest  thing that I am trying to share. Get hooked up with more than a few writing positions and keep them current. Write for them every so often to make sure you account does not go stale. You also want to make sure that if they have a ranking system (which most do) you want to do what you can to climb that ladder. You want to be able to put out some work for various places should your main client dry up for a bit or forever. Plan ahead and keep your goal in sight at all times.

Graceland - First Season Review (3 episodes so far).

While there were a couple other shows vying for my attentions as well as the first write up in the new Television Review category, I opted for USA Network's Graceland. This show is written by Jeff Eastin who also created the networks White Collar hit show. Many other review posts have seemed to have fun calling this one a dark or gritty-dark cops show, but the dark I can see coming down the road. What I see more of is the potential for character building with some crime drama filler.

The show centers around a safe-house that was a previously seized beach front condo owned by a drug lord. The FBI apparently got together with other agencies (DEA and Customs) and put all their top guns in one house. As goofy as this might seem it is actually based on real events. The show would have you believe that the actual house that the show is based around is what the "true events" refers to but its not.  From what I can tell, Eastin based this on a DEA director who pioneered a program to use seized property's as safe houses. Not one particular property that housed agents from various acronym happy organizations. Either way, the premise behind the show is entertaining enough, if not completely believable.

So you have a top of his class FBI geek who dreams of one day becoming the director of the whole shabang. So they toss him into this house and as we follow him around it gives the writers the perfect opportunity to tell the audience about everything and everybody. It is a good way to introduce the audience to story elements. Give them someone who is just as new to the situation as them and everyone can learn together.

So as we all learn about the 6 various agents who live in the house dubbed Graceland we also have the pleasure of being treated to some decent cop - robber drama. This is secondary to the drama being played out by the two main characters, MikeWarren (Aaron Tveit) and Paul Briggs (Daniel Sunjata). It is a simple enough setup. Mike achieved some outrageous score on his FBI exam and apparently the only person to ever score higher was you guessed it, Briggs. Briggs is assigned to "train" Mike and show him the world of undercover FBI work in the real world. Mike plays the part of the over-achieving FBI nerd well but we come to find out later that he is really there to investigate Briggs, for what? We do not know and do not find out for a while. This is supposed to keep us coming back. Well, that and to see what happens to the other agents of course.

The show is not all that bad. I mean, there are couple parts that were somewhat unbelievable and they sort of came down to what I would call new show jitters maybe. For example, there is a scene in episode 3 (most recent one as of the time of this writing) where Mike and Paul are driving away from an undercover op that they just barely got away with. So they are understandable anxious, nervous, and full of adrenalin. As they are speaking to each other and screaming with excitement you can catch glimpses of the police escort and trail/camera cars in building windows, jeep windshields, etc.. It was just one of those moments that made me say, "c'mon, really?"

Other than that however the show does have entertainment value. The drama seems well placed and there is definitely room for inter-character romance as well as intrigue and some comedic value. So overall it is a show I will watch.. at least, and if for nothing else, just to see how the first season pans out. The USA Network got some decent actors for the cast. Check out the full cast and crew over at the IMDB page for the show.

I really do not watch too much on USA Network at the moment. As it is I do not have much free time so the time I do spend watching television or picking up new shows is relatively planned. Squeezing in a new one like Graceland means that something else would usually have to go, but for right now I will just add it to the list of shows I watch and we will see where it lands. Until I see something that really bugs me or something that blows me away, you might not hear too much more from me about the show. But who knows, we shall see. Throwing down something about television is sort of new for me so we will have to see how it goes. But for now, this one is on the list!

Services Offered / Side Site

Well, it is just me again. Just wanted to let you all know that I have finally added a sub-site off this one that can be used to highlight as well as advertise the various services that I offer. I mean, after all, the blog is called  Diverse By Design.

I have, over the years, found myself to be good at a variety of things. Essentially most of what I put my mind to I have been able to accomplish with relative speed, efficiency, and accuracy. I am in no way intending to boast. I am just being straight with you all. Jack of all trades, master of none? Well.. I do have a couple that I have mastered so that is not entirely true. Point is, I have now given people a way to order services through the site. There are a lot of different things that DBD offers the consumers that choose to use our services. Payment is available via Paypal or credit card as with any other merchant.

If there are any questions about the services that we are offering, feel free to contact me anytime. But first, do yourself a favor and look through the services offered. You never know, there might be something that I can do help you.

What to do - What to do?

There have been a variety of job postings that I have seen come across my desk over the last couple of weeks. None of them however have really struck me as interesting however. Then again, is interesting really what is needed to pay the bills? I do not think so. Still, it would be nice to actually enjoy what it is I am doing.

I enjoy writing. For the brief time that I spend researching an article or post topic I am taken away from whatever is on my mind and transported into a world that seems dominated by the stories I am reading. Makes my wish that I could spend more time working on some of my personal writing projects. Unfortunately I have money to try and make because if I do not certain little people will go hungry. Can't have that now can we?

Geez.. over the last month alone I couldn't tell you how many different subject I have written about. Between AMS, whom I work for more than any other company, and a couple other purely freelance jobs it is hard to tell what it is I am even doing. I have spent a little bit of time trying to put the site here together a bit more. Trying to make it a little more of a marketing tool for myself and my talents. However I fear that it will be all for nothing in the end. What will truly get my name "out there" will be my personal work. Yet I simply do not have the time that I need. Pitiful is it not?

I have to work to make money, yet the way to make real money is right in front of me and I do not have any time to do it because of my need to work. Quite the dillema - yet I am sure I am not alone.

Well, should something change, or come up.. you will hear it here first I am positive of that. So stick around my friends.

Television Reviews and More....

Although it has never been something that I have written about for public consumption, I have thought about it over the last week. What I have decided was that it would be in my best interest as well as the best interest for the visitors of this blog for me to offer up some television show reviews and discussion. Not movies, television. Now I am more than well aware that there are  more of these sites than either of us can count. I am ok with that. I do not see them as my competition, and as a matter of fact I am not out here trying to compete with anyone.

A blog in it's simplest form is essentially a journal. A journal that is available to the public. This means that there is a substantial amount of personal opinion, wants and needs, and various other things that can be directly related back to the author. Over the last decade bogs have taken a bit of a different form. The lines between true website and a true blog have blurred. Today it is much harder to tell the difference between what is meant to be a blog and what is a website. So what is my point?

My point is that over the last year I have treated this blog, this piece of me in the public space, as a testing ground. I have treated it as a place for me to throw ideas around or as a placeholder for various projects that I have planned on completing. It has also been a place for which I can try and promote myself. To promote my writing or some of my short stories. All of these things never really panned out as I had initially hoped they would. That is all my fault of course. I would start something here that was actually a good idea and something that with the proper effort behind it could work. The problem was, is, that I have been entirely too busy to keep up with it due to my other obligations. In other words, trying to bring money into the household has taken precedence over what has been happening here. As well it should have.

Regardless, I still should have put some more effort into making this place a bit more dynamic. So, that is what I intend to do now. I will still be working on my writing projects that actually bring money in but I will manage my time much better so that I can put the required amount of time and effort in here. That is going to start with a new section devoted to television shows. I realized something as I was looking at some things and a couple potential job opening in various places. What I realized was that all of the things that I am interested in can all be basically placed under one sort of vague category.

So... I am not sure as of this moment exactly how the layout will be for this. For the time being I might just make a post here or there about these topics and organize them under an appropriate label. But eventually I will have this all separated organized nicely. I appreciate the patience and support that I have gotten from most of you over the last year and I hope that I can continue to bring at least a little bit of knowledge and information to you.

Thank you!

Sony Reveals the Playstation 4 and Shows Why Assasin's Creed Sux!

Playstation 4 Makes It's Long Awaited Debut!

Well, it only took a few hours of sitting on the couch biting our nails, but we were finally graced with the PS4's presence last night. We were given a glimpse of what the console will look like along with some information about the games that will be released. Sort of. We even got a preview of what a couple developers will do when a game tends to lag a bit.. they shrug. Wow, they are just like us.

Aside from the disappointment I felt from not seeing anything Metal Gear I was really happy to see what they are going to be giving us as customers. It seems that Sony really does care about us after all!

"See M$.. we told you they did! What did you give the people? Nothing but more DRM fascism!"

I will admit, I was very upset to see that the Xbox One debuted their system with Metal Gear: The Phantom Pain and the PS4 showed nothing. They even had Kojima at the event! What does that say about our chances of getting anything MGS exclusive? Nothing good I can tell you that! I'm sorry but that is the one game that I was waiting for and hoping for. I was even considering the unsettling voices in my head that were telling me,

"go ahead.. buy a Xbox One when it comes out. It is the only way to get MG: The Phantom Pain!"

But after some more careful thought and after talking to my son, the ultimate Playstation fanboy. I realized that buying an Xbox One would only upset the balance of the Universe and then it would be all my fault when we crashed into the Sun. I could not have the death of everyone on planet Earth on my head. No way. Not for this. I would have to find another way to ease my pain... my phantom pain!
